As part of our continued commitment to advancing the UAE’s healthcare ecosystem, the GS1 UAE team recently visited Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD)—a pioneer in the implementation of GS1 standards in the region. This visit offered valuable insights into how global standards are actively transforming healthcare operations and improving patient outcomes in real-world settings.
From enhancing patient safety to streamlining complex supply chain processes, CCAD has set the benchmark for innovation and efficiency in the UAE. Their supply chain operations, powered by GS1 standards, represent the most comprehensive and scalable implementation in the country.
One of the most inspiring aspects of the visit was seeing CCAD’s “green barcode” system in action. This advanced system enables seamless product traceability and identification across the entire hospital—from warehouse storage to point of administration. It plays a crucial role in optimizing operating room (OR) procedures, supporting caregivers, and enhancing patient safety at every stage.

Our visit highlighted not only the impact of global standards but also the dedication of healthcare leaders who are committed to delivering smarter, safer, and more sustainable solutions. A special thank you to Marcelino Uy, Fatima AlSubaihi, and Randy Ragas for the warm welcome and guided tour of the facility.
GS1 UAE is proud to collaborate with organizations like Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi that are shaping the future of healthcare in the region. Together, we are working towards a more connected, efficient, and resilient healthcare system for all.
